Carried Away

Q&A with Actress Amy Irving

Amy Irving shines in her first acclaimed collaboration with director Bruno Barreto. A lonely Texas farmer and schoolteacher (Dennis Hopper) finds his quiet life upended by two women: Rosealee (Irving), a warm and steady companion who offers him a future, and a teenage student (Amy Locane) who draws him into an affair. Based on Jim Harrison’s novel Farmer, this beautifully shot rural drama asks whether it’s ever too late to change.

"Bruno Barreto’s Carried Away is not simply a love triangle, and although it sets up situations in ways that seem familiar, it doesn’t resolve them as we expect. Everyone in the film–even the teenager–is more intelligent and articulate than is usually permitted in American movies."
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
