Linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams, Nocturnal Animals, American Hustle) is brought on by the military to investigate the appearance of 12 alien vessels that have touched down in various locations across the globe. She, along with theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker), are tasked with learning the aliens’ language in order to understand their motives. As nations teeter on the verge of interplanetary war, Louise and her team risk everything in the hope of saving mankind. Adapted from a short story by author Ted Chiang, the newest feature from Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) “is an eerie, tantalizing, altogether superb puzzler” (Variety).
