Anselm

PRESENTED IN 3D

In Anselm, filmmaker Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas) creates a portrait of Anselm Kiefer, one of the most innovative and important painters and sculptors of our time. Shot in 3D and 6K-resolution, the film presents a cinematic experience of the artist’s work, which explores human existence and the cyclical nature of history, inspired by literature, poetry, philosophy, science, mythology, and religion. For over two years, Wenders traced Kiefer’s path from his native Germany to his current home in France, connecting the stages of his life to the essential places of his career, which spans more than five decades.

"A film like Anselm is another level of preservation as well as a contemplative experience, in which the past and the future meet, in a way we can feel as much as see."
Alissa Wilkinson, The New York Times
"More a portrait of Kiefer’s work than a standard biographical study of Kiefer himself, Anselm is a very particular study of a singular man’s soul, told through images of his oeuvre, augmented by sensational use of archive rendered in 3D."
Catherine Bray, Variety
