An Israeli Love Story

March 15, 7:30 Q&A with AJC Director of Contemporary Jewish Life Steve Bayme and JBFC founder Steve Apkon with RECEPTION

“Dan Wolman’s new film avoids melodrama and sentimentality, and reinforces his stature as the most important independent filmmaker in Israeli cinema.” (Haaretz)

An Israeli Love Story is based on the actual love affair between actress/director Pnina Gary and Eli Ben-Zvi, son of author Rachel Yanait and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, Israel’s second president. During the turbulent period of pre-state Israel, the two young people meet on a bus. Distracted by work, Eli fails to ask for a date. Eventually history moves on, true love flowers, and the couple set a date for their wedding—but Israel’s harsh reality intervenes.
