American Doctor

Q&A with director Poh Si Teng and film subjects Dr. Mark Perlmutter, Dr. Thaer Ahmad, and Dr. Feroze Sidwha

From Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Poh Si Teng, American Doctor follows three American physicians— Palestinian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian—united by a single oath to save lives.

After volunteering in besieged hospitals in Gaza, they return home determined to fight for the patients and colleagues they left behind, taking their battle from the front lines of war to the halls of Congress.

"American Doctor unflinchingly takes us into a hospital that should be a safe haven, but in reality is anything but (and that goes for patients, doctors and staff). This is a film that will stay with you after you exit the theater."
Randy Myers, San Jose Mercury News
"Ultimately, Teng’s work lands as an essential snapshot – not an overarching chronicle of this horrible moment in history. It is a view from the ground, told by those who stepped foot inside calamity and rolled up their sleeves."
Barry Hertz, Globe and Mail
