Poitier directs this sensitive and thoughtful film about a dashingly handsome widower who finds true love again. Dr. Matt Younger (Poitier), who recently lost his wife, decides to take his young daughter on vacation in London. While abroad, he meets Catherine (Esther Anderson), the beautiful niece of African Ambassador George Oswandu (Earl Cameron). Catherine is involved in negotiations with the Soviet Union to build a vital hydroelectric plant in her country. As Matt and Catherine spend time together, and begin to fall in love, he discovers there are two suspicious men following Catherine around London. Matt is determined to stop these strangers and uncover the mysteries that enshroud Catherine. Eventually, he will discover her secrets, but it might be too late for love in any event. Ester Anderson’s performance as an African princess won her a NAACP Image Award for Best Actress in 1973. The film is also notable for an appearance of Letta Mbulu singing – with an African choir – “Nonqonqo” by Miriam Makeba.
