A note from Senior Programmer Andrew Jupin: I saw this film almost two months ago and it’s one that feels incredibly special to me now more than ever. I think in the weeks since I watched it for the first time its importance has shifted quite a bit. The Booksellers combines two of my favorite kinds of documentaries: ones with fascinating, yet kooky subjects and ones that present a great New York story. This doc weaves both together in a special way that makes me yearn for a place I know a lot of us are missing these days: New York City. I know I’m missing it, and I haven’t left Manhattan in over a month! The film is a peek into not only the fascinating world of rare book sellers, but the lives of some incredibly unique New Yorkers. It’s a doc that will spend a little over an hour and a half reminding you of what made this city so great and why it continues, and will continue to be great: the people.
About The Booksellers:

Antiquarian booksellers are part scholar, part detective, and part businessperson, whose personalities and knowledge are as broad as the material they handle. They also play an underappreciated yet essential role in preserving history. The Booksellers takes viewers inside their small but fascinating world, populated by an assortment of obsessives, intellects, eccentrics, and dreamers.
