MEET KATY AND STEVE PURTEE
JBFC Members
Film has always been at the center of Katy and Steve Purtee’s lives. In fact, film brought them together.
Katy and Steve met on a film crew and quickly realized how much they enjoyed working together. This led to their marriage and decades of collaboration as scenic artists for feature films and Broadway shows.
Shortly after they moved to Westchester in 1994, they began looking for a theater where they could watch independent, documentary, and foreign films. When they learned of the plans to renovate the old Rome Theater, they eagerly waited for the Burns to open its doors in June 2001. The JBFC has been an essential part of their lives ever since.
While film first drew Katy and Steve to the Burns, they became captivated by our education programs. Having experienced first-hand the skills gained through filmmaking – storytelling, teamwork, and problem-solving – Katy and Steve were inspired to ensure that all students have access to our innovative programs, free from barriers to entry. They also hope the Jacob Burns Film Center will continue to serve students for generations to come.
This is the reason why Katy and Steve have included our education programs in their estate plans. At the same time, they want to continue to enjoy all that the JBFC has to offer. Therefore, in addition to their legacy gift, Katy and Steve make annual contributions to support our film and education programs.
