War and Peace

Featuring some of the most epic battle scenes ever put to film, Sergei Bondarchuk’s 1966–67 seven-hour retelling of Tolstoy’s famous novel is one of the most breathtaking, can’t-miss cinematic experiences of all time. The film follows the novel’s four-part structure, interweaving stories of romantic drama inside the Russian aristocracy with accounts of Napoleon’s 1812 invasion and culminating in the burning of Moscow and France’s eventual defeat at the Battle of Krasnoi.
