Workshops and Courses:
In Creators’ Co-op, high school students deepen their craft by collaboratively producing original projects as members of a production crew, attending workshops on specific aspects of filmmaking, and taking advantage of our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. With individualized mentorship and the support of a peer network, the Creators’ Co-op community offers a dynamic experience for every student.
Beginning Feb 4, 2019: Learn the step-by-step process of film production in this collaborative workshop! After being handed a script, you will learn how to bring one scene from preproduction to postproduction—from making a shot list and storyboard to scouting and securing locations to exploring the roles of directors, cinematographers, and lighting, sound, and crew on set. Cinematography: Illuminating the Frame
Beginning Feb. 6, 2019: Focus on the relationship between lighting and composition, and explore the creation of mood through light, color, and shadow. Work with professional lighting kits as well as low-budget natural scenarios. Learn More
Beginning Mar. 20, 2019: Learn the process of directing and producing a short documentary, including writing a treatment, scouting locations, conducting engaging interviews, and capturing B-roll. Bring an idea or find one in class! Learn More
Editing: Making A Scene
Beginning Mar. 26, 2019: This professional-level introduction to post production working with Adobe CC’s Premiere Pro will guide you through the process of editing a scene with provided footage. Learn More
The Burns Challenge
May 17–May 18, 2019: Make a film in 24 hours! Your team will receive a set of guidelines, a camera, and 24-hour access to the Lab’s editing and sound recording facilities. Each group will conceive, shoot, edit, and finish a short film. Learn More
Special Events: Co-op Nights
These gatherings are open to all high school students. Explore the world of filmmakers at these informative and fun evenings. There are no additional fees to participate, but preregistration is required.
Feb. 12 & Mar. 12: Learn firsthand from independent filmmakers, view short films, meet other high school film fans, and more! These fun and enlightening events give high school students an opportunity to meet filmmaking fellows from JBFC’s Creative Culture program, network with peers, and gain valuable insights into the film industry.
