9/20 screening presented on 35mm

In Robert Altman’s biting Hollywood satire, hotshot studio executive Griffin Mill (played by Tim Robbins—in one of his finest performances) starts receiving death threats from a rejected screenwriter, leading him to accidentally kill a man and begin courting the dead man’s girlfriend. As police investigate the murder, Griffin concentrates on the production of a film he thinks might reinvigorate his career.

"Joins company with Sullivan's Travels and Sunset Boulevard as the quintessential Hollywood peek-a-boos...[and] Tim Robbins' modulated performance rates rhapsodic praise. "
Mike Clark, USA Today
"From its brilliant and sublime opening sequence to its self-reflexive ending, The Player distills everything that's wrong with the American film industry with the precision of someone who's been there."
Steve Davis, Austin Chronicle
