20th Anniversary Screening!
In a dystopian world conquered by machines, the human race’s reason for existing is to act as bio-electric batteries that power an artificially intelligent system known as The Matrix. This advanced A.I. has created a virtual reality where the consciousness of all human “batteries” are made to think they are living normal, everyday lives in an environment comparable to present day Earth. Defying the odds, a few humans have gained the ability to unplug from the system and are working to rebel against the machines, freeing the rest of the “sleeping” society from their mechanical overlords. Leader Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), his second in command, Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), and the rest of their team are deeply entrenched in the fight when they meet Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves), a faceless office worker by day and Neo, a criminal hacker by night, who just may hold the key to toppling The Matrix once and for all.
Blending state-of-the-art computer effects, cyberpunk science fiction, smash-bang action, and impeccable “wire fu” fight scenes choreographed by master Chinese martial arts director, Yuen Woo-ping, The Matrix is a classic piece of Hollywood filmmaking that still feels incredibly fresh—and extremely relevant considering today’s tech-dependent culture—two decades later.
