The Kid

The Kid doesn’t merely show Charlie Chaplin at a turning point, when he proved that he was a serious film director—it remains an expressive masterwork of silent cinema. In it, he stars as his lovable Tramp character, this time raising an orphan (a remarkable young Jackie Coogan) he has rescued from the streets. Chaplin and Coogan make a miraculous pair in this nimble marriage of sentiment and slapstick, a film that is, as its opening title card states, “a picture with a smile—and perhaps, a tear.”

All Ages screenings are just $5 for everyone—kids and adults alike. Enjoy a new family-friendly film each week on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00AM, with the first Sunday of every month offering sensory friendly screenings.

"To my mind The Kid is by long odds the best motion picture comedy ever made. It has more than humor; it has tenderness and literary charm."
Henry Carr, Los Angeles Times
"As always, Chaplin's opulent Victorian sentimentality is made palatable both by the amazing grace of his pantomimic skills and the balancing presence of harsh reality."
Geoff Brown, Time Out
