The Great Mouse Detective

The clues are in, the chase is on, and the case of the century is about to break wide open in Disney’s buoyant musical who-done-it. In cobblestone streets of turn-of-the-century London, Olivia, the brave daughter of a beloved toy maker, turns to Basil, the resident rodent Sherlock of Baker Street, for help with her father’s disappearance. Basil is joined by jolly assistant Dr. Dawson and his expert sniffing dog Toby in a rollicking adventure transposed to mousedom from one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tales. Featuring the voice of Hollywood legend Vincent Price as hard-hearted criminal Professor Ratigan, and music from Academy Award-winning composer Henry Mancini, The Great Mouse Detective is a glory of traditional cel animation from the same era that produced Disney’s The Little Mermaid

"The Great Mouse Detective reflects the energy and enthusiasm of a talented group of young artists stretching their wings for the first time. That group has gone on to produce some truly extraordinary work, win awards and earn sums no one believed could be made from an animated film. And, as has often been the case at Disney, it all began with a mouse."
Charles Solomon, Los Angeles Times
