A middle-aged man is planning to commit suicide and is searching for someone to bury his body after the deed is done, or talk him out of it. Driving around the hilly outskirts of Tehran, he picks up three passengers from different walks of life, and their conversations elicit a variety of views on mortality and individual choice. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, Taste of Cherry is an emotionally complex meditation on life and death.
