Strangers at Home

March 28, 7:30 Q&A with AJC Chief Executive Officer David Harris with RECEPTION

Strangers at Home shares the voices of young French students, many of them first-, second-, or third-generation immigrants of African or North African origin. How do they identify themselves? In one memorable scene, students are asked “Who is French?” and everyone raises a hand; but when asked “Who feels French?” not a single hand goes up. We watch with fascination and hope as these young people work with their teacher and with historians, psychologists, political scientists, and each other to address their contradictory feelings and preconceptions, and begin to shed their prejudices.
