Sounds of Summer 2023 Opening Night Presentation

After leaving his backing band The Revolution after Under the Cherry Moon, Prince formed a new ensemble – the New Power Generation – and forged a unique sound with the unforgettable double LP Sign o’ the Times. The tour supporting the album was a colorful extravaganza now immortalized in the concert film by the same name. Interspersing performance footage with creative interstitial sequences, Prince plays with traditional boundaries of the concert film format, expanding his performance beyond the arena stage with sensual yet mysterious tangents. For decades, the incredible performances of Prince, Sheila E., and the New Power Generation on the Sign o’ the Times tour went mostly unseen after the film’s 1987 release until a fresh restoration returned the movie to the big screen for a new generation of fans to discover.
