One of Latin America´s most beloved singer-songwriters, Ruben Blades (“Pedro Navaja,” “Patria”) has had an exhilarating career—recording 38 albums, winning 17 Grammys, acting in 42 films, earning a law degree from Harvard, and even running for president of his native Panama. Blades was at the center of the New York salsa revolution in the 1970s, leading the charge as his sophisticated lyrics and explosive rhythms brought salsa to an international audience. One of Panama’s leading filmmakers, Abner Benaim gives us this rare opportunity to get to know the artist, his infectious music, the stories behind his songs and his decision to leave the music world.
