Post-screening Happy Hour with 50% off wine

Jonathan Larson’s groundbreaking musical Rent was a Broadway phenomenon. Set in New York City during the 1990s, Rent follows a group of artists and friends as they navigate love, identity, and survival in the face of hardship and the HIV/AIDS crisis. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the movie, directed by Chris Columbus, stars original Broadway cast members Idina Menzel, Anthony Rapp, and Adam Pascal, along with Rosario Dawson. With an unforgettable soundtrack and stunning performances, relive this queer cultural sensation on the big screen.

The screening will be introduced by series curator Chris Holliday alongside Broadway producer and JBFC Board Member Dori Berinstein.

"The movie is literally a series of showstoppers, unified by the impulse to turn life, at its scruffiest, into theater—into a rhapsody of the everyday."
Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
"The film captures the beautiful spirit and the raw energy of Larson's play, and it respects the wonderful, gorgeous, life-affirming music."
Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper

This film is part of the Out There series.
