Purple Noon

Presented in 35mm

This adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s creepily mesmerizing The Talented Mr. Ripley stars a charismatic, bronzed Alain Delon cavorting with friends in the sun-splashed islands off Italy’s Amalfi coast. Well before Matt Damon, he plays the duplicitous American charmer Tom Ripley on a mission to bring a privileged, devil-may-care acquaintance back to the US from Europe. What initially seems a louche tale of casual friendship soon morphs into an erotic suspense story of seduction, fluid identities, and murder, giving Delon the role of a lifetime.

This film is part of the Classic French Cinema: Breakout Roles series.
