Growing up in Israel, filmmaker Yael Reuveny (Farewell Herr Schwarz) came of age in the 1990s —a tumultuous decade that started with optimistic peace talks and ended with the Second Intifada, leading Reuveny to remark that her generation was the first in Israel to know hope and then to lose it. The only one of her classmates to move abroad, Reuveny, who lives in Berlin, returns to Israel to catch up with her childhood friends. Intercutting Super 8 footage of her peaceful childhood with candid interviews and her own thoughts, she presents a fascinating view of a diverse collection of Israelis and a sensitive exploration of her relationship with her homeland and ultimately, her own identity.
