“The creative process is always an elusive thing for filmmakers to capture, but amid all the startling visuals and the splendid acting, Polina rises, gloriously, to the challenge.” (Wall Street Journal)
Based on the popular graphic novel of the same name, Polina follows a young Russian ballerina (played by real-life professional dancer Anastasia Shevtsova) who is just about to join the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet when she discovers a love of contemporary dance. Polina’s revelation throws her entire career into question. Diverting from her plan, she leaves all her exacting preparation behind and moves to France to work with a famous choreographer (Academy Award-winner Juliette Binoche, Clouds of Sils Maria). But once there she is forced to grapple with the difficult truth that determination and hard work don’t always lead to success.
