Adapted by Ian McEwan from his bestselling novel, this drama centers on a young couple from drastically different backgrounds. Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird, Brooklyn) is Florence, a disciplined violinist raised in a repressed middle-class household. In the summer of 1962, Florence marries Edward (Billy Howle, Dunkirk), who comes from a liberal and volatile family out in the country. Following the pair through their idyllic courtship, the film explores sex and the societal pressures that can accompany physical intimacy, leading to an awkward and fateful wedding night. The debut film from acclaimed theater director Dominic Cooke, On Chesil Beach is, “a completely heartbreaking story brought to exquisite life via immaculate writing, directing and acting” (Los Angeles Times)
