No Country for Old Men

While out hunting, the hapless Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) finds a suitcase with $2 million in cash after stumbling upon the grisly aftermath of a drug deal gone horribly wrong. The ruthless, methodical killer Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem, in an Academy Award-winning performance) comes looking for the money, with local sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) hot on his trail, and the roles of prey and predator begin to blur as the violent pursuit of money and justice collide.

Adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s novel of the same name, No Country for Old Men is a neo-Western masterpiece from co-directors Ethan and Joel Coen. The film received eight nominations at the 80th Academy Awards in 2008 (where it was tied with There Will Be Blood—also playing as a part of this series—for most nominations of the evening), winning five awards, including Best Picture.

"A return to form for the Coen Brothers and, while I feel the film will annoy and frustrate the masses, it will be looked back upon as one of the truly great movies of the first part of this new decade."
Don R. Lewis, Film Threat
"Many of the scenes in No Country for Old Men are so flawlessly constructed that you want them to simply continue, and yet they create an emotional suction drawing you to the next scene. Another movie that made me feel that way was Fargo. To make one such film is a miracle. Here is another."
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
