When Irene, a madcap socialite (Carole Lombard), hires Godfrey, (William Powell), a man down on his luck during the Great Depression, to be her family’s butler, she quickly begins to fall for him, much to his dismay. Godfrey attempts to navigate the extravagance and eccentricity of the family, fight Irene’s persistent romantic advances, all while keeping a few secrets of his own. This iconic film set the standard for screwball comedies of the 1930s and features unforgettable performances from both Lombard and Powell.

"There may be a sober moment or two in the picture; there may be a few lines of the script that do not pack a laugh. Somehow we cannot remember them"
