I suppose you could say this is a selection on the lighter side…but this nail-biting, insane thrill ride of three celebrated climbers who take on the sheer 20,000 foot Himalayan rock face of Meru is not to be taken for granted. It’s easily one of the best adventure docs I’ve ever seen, and when I had a chance to watch it again a few weeks ago, I was reminded of how exhilarating and terrifying it was; and reminded of that crazy combination of courage, obsession, and a kind of noble lunacy that separates people like this from the rest of us. What happens to them along the way would feel like the most tortured contrivances were it not a documentary, as you watch people attempt to climb something that no one had ever climbed before—for good reason! –JBFC Programmer Brian Ackerman
