Back in late ’60s through the early ‘80s in Egypt there was a band of charismatic young performers so popular that they were known as the local version of the Beatles. Playing hits by the likes of Ray Charles, James Brown, and the actual Beatles, these cool guys dominated the local nightlife scene and attracted crowds of crazed fans when they toured. When the band broke up, they all went on to enjoy individual celebrity status. After three decades, they briefly reunited—and filmmaker Sherif Nakhla was there to capture all the musical, nostalgic bliss. The film also provides us with a great portrait of Cairo’s “golden age,” a thrilling time of café society, a sophisticated art scene, and booming business.
