As a big fan of both Robert Greene—whose last film, the incredible doc hybrid Actress, is mandatory viewing—and Kate Lyn Sheil—who has turned in fantastically memorable performances in some of the most interesting independent films of the last few years including, The Comedy, Listen Up Phillip, The Heart Machine, and The Sacrament—I was excited to find out that the two were working together on Greene’s latest film. It’s another hybrid project called Kate Plays Christine, an investigative look into the story of Christine Chubbuck, the Florida newscaster who committed a shocking act on live television in 1974. Rarely is there ever a tagline so accurate for a film: “A Nonfiction Psychological Thriller.” This is one of the most fascinating films I saw all year—in my opinion, the better of the two Christine Chubbuck projects that came out in 2016—and something you’ll want to make time for in your schedule. – Andrew Jupin, Senior Programmer
