Todd Haynes’ I’m Not There is a biopic like few others. Instead of painstakingly recreating different scenes and moments in an artist’s backstory, the director repurposes aspects of Bob Dylan’s life and music to reinterpret six of the singer’s public personas as played by six different actors: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, and Ben Whishaw. The result is an ultra-creative celebration of the man and his groundbreaking work.
