Gosford Park

Robert Altman journeyed to England to create this unique whodunnit near the end of his career, utilizing another of his outstanding ensemble casts that included Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, Ryan Phillippe, Kristin Scott Thomas, Charles Dance, Kelly Macdonald, and Bob Balaban—who also served as a producer and received a story credit he shared with Altman.

Set in the 1930’s, Gosford Park brings a group of the rich, famous, and pretentious together for a weekend of relaxation at a hunting resort. But when a murder occurs, each one of these interesting characters becomes a suspect. Nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, the film won screenwriter Julian Fellowes his first Oscar nearly a decade before he would go on to create Downton Abbey.

"A succulent and devious drawing-room mystery that, in its panoramic way, takes a puckish pleasure in scrambling and reshuffling the worlds of upstairs and downstairs."
Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
"I don't think I've ever seen the British class system of the 1930s so artfully dissected. It's all the more remarkable when you consider that Altman is a 76-year-old American—albeit a Southern gent. A huge, huge treat."
Roger Clarke, Independent (UK)

This film is part of the Altman at 100 series.
