Picó’s work is “a manifesto for a world where artistic expression is defined by desire and aptitude instead of age and gender.” (Londondance.com)
A portrait of the charismatic Catalan dancer and choreographer Sol Picó, who began performing in street theater and rose to create an internationally recognized dance company. From Knee to Heart finds Picó after winning Spain’s prestigious National Dance Award, continuing to dance well after her prime with the same authority and physical abandon of her youth. She looks back at earlier preoccupations with feminine power and gender inequality and ahead to creating new works that address current concerns: the country’s roiling economic and social upheaval and the personal challenges that come with age.
From Knee to Heart is a selection from the 47th annual Dance on Camera Festival, coproduced by Dance Films Association and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
