Father Mother Sister Brother

Opens Jan. 9—Preview Screening on Jan. 8 with Q&A with co-cinematographer Frederick Elmes

Winner of the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 2025 Venice Film Festival

Featuring an all-star ensemble including Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Charlotte Rampling, Vicky Krieps, Tom Waits, and more, Jim Jarmusch (Down by Law, Night on Earth, Paterson) writes and directs this contemplative study of family dynamics.

A feature film in the form of a triptych, the three stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other. Beautifully shot by co-cinematographers Frederick Elmes (Eraserhead, The Ice Storm) and Yorick Le Saux (Little Women, Only Lovers Left Alive), Father Mother Sister Brother is a warm, wryly hilarious addition to Jarmusch’s truly singular body of work.

Introduction by Frederick Elmes before the 8:15 screening on Jan. 9 and 7:45 screening on Jan. 10

In celebration of Frederick Elmes’ work on Father Mother Sister Brother, we are pleased to highlight four classic films shot by him and directed by such luminaries as Jim Jarmusch (Night on Earth—35mm), Ang Lee (The Ice Storm—35mm), Charlie Kaufman (Synecdoche, New York—35mm), and David Lynch (Eraserhead).

"What Jarmusch has called his 'quiet film' speaks with clarity as one from the heart."
Nicolas Rapold, Sight & Sound
"There is a contentment and calm here, an acceptance and a Zen simplicity that is a cleansing of the moviegoing palate, or perhaps the fiction-consuming palate in general. It is a film to savour."
Peter Bradshaw, Guardian (UK)
