Occupied Paris, 1941: Jeweler Joseph Haffmann (Daniel Auteuil, A French Woman, Jean de Florette), fearing the worst, arranges for his family to flee the city and offers his employee François Mercier (Gilles Lellouche, Sink or Swim, Love Me if You Dare) the chance to take over his store until the conflict subsides. When Haffmann’s attempts to leave France fail, he returns home, and his risky agreement with Mercier becomes a Faustian bargain, one that will change the fate of all involved. A riveting guide through the world of Vichy France, where lives are irrevocably shaped by the twin scourges of war and the black market.
