E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Cinema Studies Screening & Lecture on June 14

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is the thrilling, deeply moving story of the special friendship that develops between Elliott, a lonely young boy living in a suburban California community, and a wise, benevolent visitor from another planet who becomes stranded on Earth. As Elliott attempts to help his extra-terrestrial friend contact his home planet so that he might be rescued, they must elude scientists and government agents determined to apprehend the alien for their own purposes…which results in an adventure greater than anything either of them could have imagined. Nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning four (including one for John Williams’ unforgettable score).

Saturday and Sunday 11:00am screenings will feature All Ages pricing, Monday screenings to feature standard pricing.

All Ages screenings are just $5 for everyone—kids and adults alike. Enjoy a new family-friendly film each week on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00AM, with the first Sunday of every month offering sensory friendly screenings.

To highlight our release of Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, the newest science fiction film from one of cinema’s great pioneers of the genre, the Jacob Burns Film Center will present screenings of a Spielberg-directed sci-fi film every weekend from May 9 through June 21 as a part of our series Steven Spielberg’s Sci-Fi.

"Seeing E.T. again reminds us of how much we've remained the same, how gratified we still are by a film that connects so beautifully to our sense of wonder and joy."
Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
"Spielberg has always demonstrated extraordinary aptitude for filmmaking, but E.T. is far and away his most satisfying work to date. He knows how to transform the raw material of his childhood into an appealing popular fable. There are sequences that touch you to the quick in mysteriously casual ways."
Gary Arnold, Washington Post
