Chappaqua

Reel Talk with Jonathan Demme

The first film we showed in this series, back in 2005, Chappaqua is a psychedelic tale of drug addiction and withdrawal. The cult film is the semi-autobiographical story of filmmaker Conrad Rooks (Siddartha) that features gorgeous cinematography by Robert Frank and music from Ravi Shankar (who co-wrote the score with Philip Glass). With cameos from Burroughs, Ginsberg, and Ornette Coleman, Chappaqua is a cinematic time-capsule of the trippy 1960’s.

This film is part of the Jonathan Demme's Rarely Seen Cinema series.
