“…an intimate, searching portrait of the turbulent friendship between Cézanne the painter and Zola the writer.” (New York Times)
Cézanne et Moi traces the lives, careers, and passionate friendship of post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne (Guillaume Gallienne, Yves Saint Laurent, Marie Antoinette), and novelist Emile Zola (Guillaume Canet, Joyeux Noël, Tell No One). As young men growing up in Aix-en-Provence, Cézanne and Zola overcome differences in class and upbringing through shared artistic passions. Together they leave southern France to pursue fame, glory, and beautiful women in the Paris art scene. As Zola’s career skyrockets and Cézanne’s stalls, a tense rivalry threatens to destroy their once vibrant friendship. Directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Danièle Thompson (Cousin Cousine), Cézanne et Moi is a gorgeously shot depiction of the turbulent 19th century Parisian art world.
