March 20: Q&A filmmaker Nancy Buirski

The American film legend Sidney Lumet (1924–2011) tells his life story in a never-before-seen interview shot in 2008. With grace, humor, and honesty, Lumet shares what it means to be an artist and a human being. Interweaving clips from some of his 44 landmark films, including Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, 12 Angry Men, and Network, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Nancy Buirski (Afternoon of a Faun, The Loving Story) creates a stunning portrait of one of the most accomplished and socially conscious directors in the history of American cinema. By Sydney Lumet is an impressive film about an extraordinary storyteller and the spiritual and ethical lessons at the core of his work.
