This engaging period piece, set during WWII, centers around France’s first socialist Jewish Prime Minister, Léon Blum (Hippolyte Girardot), who served three terms. The young Janot Reichenbach (Elsa Zylberstein) fell in love with the much older, married Blum when she was just 16. She ended up with another man and had a son—but when the Nazis occupy France, she is driven to give up her comfortable life to link her fate with that of her true love, Blum. This beautifully acted re-creation of a little-known true story is a stirring tale of love and courage.
