Ace in the Hole

Screening & Lecture with Media Historian Dr. Tanya Goldman

Director Billy Wilder’s follow-up to Sunset Boulevard follows an arrogant reporter named Chuck Tatum (Kirk Douglas), who cynically exploits a story about a man trapped in a cave in an attempt to revitalize his career.

After the screening, stay for a lecture and discussion featuring media historian, professor, film programmer, and NYU Graduate Dr. Tanya Goldman.

Catch more screenings and lectures as part of the Cinema Studies: Billy Wilder series in February, featuring Ace in the Hole, Love in the Afternoon, and A Foreign Affair. Members save $10 per session when buying all 3 Billy Wilder Cinema Studies Events!

"This 1951 film, about a cynical reporter who seizes on the plight of a man trapped in a mine shaft to promote his career, is cold, lurid, and fascinating, propelled by the same combination of moral outrage and sneaky admiration."
Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader
