A Matter of Time

“A Matter of Time is part concert film, part family portrait, and part call to action.” (The Tyee)

In 2007 musician Kathryn Calder was touring the world with the indie rock band the New Pornographers when the devastating news arrived: Her mother, Lynn, had been diagnosed with ALS and was given only a few years to live. Calder decided to return home and committed to being her mom’s primary caregiver. As she plunged into her new role, she was inspired by the love of music the two shared to transform their living room into a studio. Calder filled the house with music and made a record—her first solo album—as a parting gift for her biggest fan. With amazing concert footage and original performances of Calder’s new songs, A Matter of Time is a heart-breaking yet life-affirming examination of the inspiration to make something beautiful amid grief and trauma.

This film is part of the Sounds of Summer 2017: Music Films, Old and New series.
