3000 Nights

Q&A actress Hana Chamoun

Q&A actress Hana Chamoun  with series programmer Lina Matta

Layal, a young newlywed Palestinian schoolteacher, is falsely accused of terrorism, arrested, and thrown in jail for eight years. In a high-security Israeli prison, she encounters a terrifying world in which Palestinian political prisoners are incarcerated alongside Israeli criminals. When she discovers she is pregnant, her life becomes even more challenging—and then as she struggles to maintain hope and raise her son behind bars, Layal is forced to make a choice that will forever change her life. While it is surely a tale of injustice and betrayal, documentarian Mai Masri’s skillful first narrative film is also a moving elegy to the resilience of the human spirit.

This film is part of the Contemporary Arab Cinema 2016 series.
