In what would be his final movie, Kiarostami created a dialogue between his film and his photography—the two artforms to which he dedicated his life—by animating 24 still images into short vignettes that reconstruct the minutes before and after the shots were taken. The photographs, most of which are stark landscapes inhabited only by birds and animals, become poignant studies in movement, perception, and time in this sustained meditation on the process of image-making.
