The Arrivals is a documentary about the journey of asylum seekers sent to New York City from the Texas border. The film focuses on the efforts of three small, underfunded volunteer organizations that provide support—including food, clothing, and kindness—to traumatized individuals and families seeking safety and security in the United States. The film features the leaders of these organizations: Adama Bah, Ilze Thielmann and Power Malu and their heroic efforts from first greeting migrants arriving at the Port Authority bus terminal, to eventually opening three locations in NYC where their work continues providing clothing and food, as well as legal services and a sense of security to people on this journey. It is an uplifting film about ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Note: Buses must arrive at the JBFC Theater by 9:15 AM. The JBFC will cover the cost of ONE bus for under-resourced schools. Bus availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. All bus invoices must be sent to JBFC within 60 days after the event in order to be paid. This event will be photographed. Prior to the event, educators will be asked to return photo releases for all students attending.
Special Guest: Andrea Garbarini, Director of The Arrivals
Andrea Garbarini is a documentary filmmaker based in Pleasantville, NY. She began her filmmaking career as a producer on From the Ground Up with Gage and Gage Productions. The film, which explores the resilience and achievements of five 9/11 widows in the aftermath of the attacks, won multiple awards and was featured on PBS and the OWN Network.
Since then, Andrea has focused her filmmaking efforts on social justice, with her last two films exploring pressing humanitarian issues. Her most recent project, The Arrivals, chronicles the experiences of thousands of migrants bused from Texas to New York City. Throughout her work, Andrea seeks to spark meaningful dialogue about the social and humanitarian challenges facing people today.
