Meet Lowen McKay
Born and raised in Westchester, Lowen McKay has fond memories of going to the movies with family and friends. The sense of community Lowen experienced was just as meaningful as the stories that came to life on the big screen.
Given her lifelong love for movies, Lowen became a member soon after the JBFC opened in 2001 and has remained a vibrant part of our community.
Lowen sees just about everything at the JBFC, so it’s hard for her to choose a favorite moment. Programs that stand out for Lowen include Dramatic Escape, a documentary about a group of men at Sing Sing mounting a production of A Few Good Men, followed by a q&a with several of the cast members who have since been released. Lowen was also transfixed by a q&a with dance icon Misty Copeland. And whenever Beatlesologist Scott Freiman is at the JBFC, Lowen will be in the audience!
During a special evening with Anna Quindlen, the author encouraged audience members to record their thoughts and feelings in writing. “The JBFC and Anna Quindlen gave me an incentive to write my story of coming of age in the 1950s,” said Lowen. “My family has a copy of my story, That’s How It Was, and a glimpse into Aunt Lowen’s childhood thinking.”
Legacy means a lot to Lowen, which is the reason why she has included the JBFC in her estate plans. At the same time, Lowen wants to continue to enjoy all that the JBFC has to offer. Therefore, in addition to her legacy gift, Lowen provides annual support to the JBFC through a contribution from her IRA.
