A young and ambitious prosecutor (played with dark intensity by newcomer Emilian Oprea) is surprised to be assigned a sensitive case involving an older colleague accused of corruption. What could have been a springboard for his career turns out to have the opposite effect, revealing that he may be a mere pawn on a cynical chessboard. Based on outrageous real events, this Sidney Lumet-esque political thriller about one man’s fight with the system finds director Tudor Giurgiu in a more serious mode after his crowd-pleasing Of Snails and Men (shown here in 2013), taking huge risks in exposing the dirty and sometimes tragic games of Romanian politics.
