In Ethiopia today, there is a community of over 9,000 practicing Jews who speak Hebrew and keep kosher. Many have relatives in Israel and want to make aliyah and become Israeli citizens, but the Ethiopian government denies them this right. The Passengers follows the extraordinary, hopeful journey of two young men from this community, Demoz and Gezi, as they travel to the United States to rally support for their cause. With historical context and intimate access, director Ryan Porush follows these two unlikely spokesmen on their first-ever trip out of Ethiopia they deal with intense pressure, homesickness, and ups and downs of a grassroots campaign.
