Step follows a year in the life of the Baltimore Leadership Academy for Young Women’s step team, the Lethal Ladies, as they balance the myriad responsibilities of senior year and preparation for a major step competition. Empowered by their teachers, teammates, counselors, coaches, and families, these young women fight against all odds to escape poverty and tumultuous home lives, attend college, and ultimately achieve their dreams. Filmmaker Amanda Lipitz, formerly a Broadway producer, crafts a deeply insightful and emotionally inspiring story capturing triumphs as well as failures as the girls strive to make their dancing a success against the backdrop of Baltimore’s social unrest.
