Oh Lucy! follows lonely and bitter chain-smoker Setsuko (Shinobu Terajima in an Independent Spirit Award-nominated performance) a single, emotionally unfulfilled woman seemingly stuck with a dead-end office job and drab meaningless life in Tokyo. Her niece convinces her to enroll in an unorthodox English class taught by the handsome and enigmatic John (Josh Hartnett). During their sessions together, Setsuko is able to escape from her unhappy existence–she dons a blond wig and takes on an American alter ego named “Lucy.” The new identity awakens something dormant in Setsuko, and she quickly develops romantic feelings for John. When he suddenly disappears, Setsuko travels halfway around the world to track him down, furthering her own self-discovery along the way. Based on her award-winning short film, filmmaker Atsuko Hirayanagi’s feature debut is a whip-smart, wonderfully bizarre, and shockingly intimate character study.

Friday, May 30: Annual Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department’s Firefighter Parade begins tonight at 6:00. Please leave extra time to get to your film.
