A reporting team is interviewing petty criminals, sometimes harshly, in the Bucharest railway station, with an eye to making examples of them. When the cameraman, the reporter’s boyfriend, takes a special interest in one of the subjects, the professional and personal collide. This irreverent social satire, made under communist rule by veteran filmmaker Mircea Daneliuc (Jacob, showing Dec. 5), effortlessly stands the test of time. Richard Pena, former program director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, wrote in admiration of this rare masterpiece: “Microphone Test is about the moment when a crack appears in the social facade that reveals another kind of reality hidden just out of sight.
