Keith Richards: Under the Influence

Academy Award–winner Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom) brings us this laid-back portrait of Rolling Stones guitarist and pop culture icon Keith Richards as he records his first solo album in two decades. Richards reflects on his musical roots (“I grew up with American folk music, jazz, the blues, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters—rock ‘n ‘ roll’s got nothing on those guys”), on writing songs (“In the right mood, and with the right instrument, there’s a certain feeling of being an antenna, receiving and then transmitting,”), and more. With plenty of music (including some very special studio footage) and conversation about the passage of time, this engaging documentary is a surprisingly touching portrait of a man who is still rockin’, still rollin’, and still being Keith Richards.
